History

Heritage Fellowship Church, HFC, was originally started as Community Fellowship Church, with the first service was held Sunday, April 2, 1978 at the home of one of the founding members.  After three years, services were moved to the Reston Community Center because of the growth of the church.

In 1985, the architectural design for a new church building was submitted to the County of Fairfax.  The sanctuary was completed and dedicated in 1987 with the administrative and educational wing added in 1998.

With the installation of Pastor Norman A. Tate in 1995, God blessed the Church with immense growth in the membership of the church.  When three services could no longer accommodate the growth, worship services were moved to South Lakes High School in Reston starting in 2001 and, subsequently to Herndon High School in 2005.

Overview

HFC’s future is bright with a focus on the youth, serving the community, and its stance on the Word of God.  The Church has dedicated ministries to meet the membership needs, which include ministries for the following groups:  couples, men, women, singles, seniors, and youth.  To further the spiritual development of the members, HFC has 20 ordained Deacons, Stephen Ministers, a formalized Bible Institute Program, a Christian Counseling Center, a minister of congregational care, a minister dedicated to leading the church in support of local and international missions, and other ministerial staff.

In meeting the needs of those in the community, the members serve monthly at the Embry Rucker Shelter in Reston, provide food for the homeless at St. Stephen’s in Washington, DC, and distribute food to those in need via its Share program.  Further, the Church annually delivers breakfast and dinner to the fire and police stations of Herndon, Reston, and LoudonCounty, as well as partners with Reston Interfaith in being a distribution location for Fairfax County’s Ensure program.

Vision

That we be a people who are standing on the Word of God, Seeking the Will of God, Sure in our Worship of God, and Steadfast in the Work of God.

Mission

The Mission of the HFC is to be a Christ-centered church that shares the Good News of Jesus Christ with others; gives of our time, treasure and talents toward the building of God's Church; studies and teaches God's Word; ministers to those in need; and embraces and cares for one another as Jesus cares for us.

New Church

Although the Heritage Fellowship Church has made much progress in the past 29 years, “There remains yet very much land to be possessed.”  To fulfill the work that God has for us, we have embarked on building a 45,000 square foot edifice.  This new church is not simply a means to accommodate the congregational growth but will enable us to train disciples of Christ to accomplish God’s work.  The New Church has been designed around the vision of the church:

  • Standing on the Word of God – Over 15 classrooms designed for the instruction in and teaching of God’s Word
  • Seeking the Will of God – Christian Resource Center and mini-Chapel for developing our relationship with God to seek His Will
  • Sure in Our Worship of God – An 844-seat sanctuary, an 80-seat choir loft and rehearsal room for leading us into Sunday worship on Sunday and other services
  • Steadfast in the Work of God – administrative offices, rooms for counseling sessions, baptistery, and kitchen and fellowship hall for feeding the hungry
